Dr. Arthur William Wakefield
wakefield
(1876–c. 1949)
Arthur Wakefield was one of the 1922 expedition’s doctors.
A graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge, Wakefield qualified at the London Hospital and spent much of his life as a general practitioner in the English Lake District after working in Canada immediately before and after World War I. Although unsuited to high-altitude mountaineering, Wakefield had a formidable record as a fell runner and rock climber, although arthritis marred his later years.
