Ang Tshering
Thsering
(c. 1904–2002)
A member of the 1924 and 1933 expeditions, Ang Tshering was born in Khumbu but went to Darjeeling at the age of 16.
He was with Smythe on Kamet in 1931, and went with German teams to Kangchenjunga and Nanga Parbat, where in 1934 he was the only survivor among three sahibs and six Sherpas when a storm destroyed Camp VIII (24,000 feet/7315 m). He took part in six postwar expeditions before finally reaching a summit himself (Nanda Ghunti, 20,700 feet/6309 m) when he was 52 years of age.
