Edmund Hugh Lewis Wigram
wigram
(1911–1945)
Edmund Wigram was an irrepressible member of the 1935 reconnaissance, during which he climbed 20 peaks above 20,000 feet (6100 m). On the 1936 expedition he got no further than the North Col owing to bad weather and illness.
Wigram was educated at Marlborough College and Trinity College, Cambridge, and qualified as a doctor. He was already an experienced alpine climber when elected President of the Cambridge University Mountaineering Club (1931–32), and continued to climb during World War II. At the age of 34 he was killed in a fall on the Idwal Slabs, in North Wales.
